It is clear that we are in a climate crisis. Glaciers are melting, sea levels rising, cloud forests are dying and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace, all due to humans burning and releasing heat-trapping gasses to power our modern lives. These are called greenhouse gasses and their levels are higher now than any time in the last 800,000 years. So why is it so important that we make positive changes?

Why Solar Energy is Important for Future?

There are endless reasons why solar energy is important to our future, but these are some of the most important:

Fewer Floods and Droughts will occur.

Droughts are becoming far more likely, due to the vast amount of water required annually to power the plants that burn fossil fuels. Climate change is causing floods, which damages thousands of homes and businesses every year. This has rendered countless people homeless or deceased. There is an urgent call for a paradigm shift when it comes to managing countries prone to extreme weather, such as India and the Philippines.

Global Health Will Improve.

The air we currently breathe is polluted, especially in cities and low- and middle-income countries. According to the World Health Organization, almost all of the global population (99%) breathe air that exceeds WHO guideline limits and contains high levels of pollutants. This is directly caused by the burning of fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide into the air we breathe.

Renewable Energy Sources Promote Economic Growth.

Renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and hydro, are increasingly becoming cost-competitive with fossil fuels. The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that renewable energy will account for 80% of the world’s electricity generation by 2050. This transition to renewable energy is critical to achieving Net Zero, as electricity generation is responsible for approximately 42% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Solar energy is one of the most promising renewable energy sources, with the potential to play a significant role in achieving Net Zero. The price of solar panels has dropped by 90% over the past decade, making it increasingly cost-competitive with fossil fuels. According to the IEA, solar energy could be the largest source of electricity by 2050, accounting for 30% of global electricity production.

This is especially welcome in rural areas where local economies could benefit from the jobs created. Solar jobs are increasing every year as more people install solar panels. These jobs cannot be outsourced, so they will continue to grow each year; Clean Energy Canada predicts that there will be roughly 639,00 clean energy jobs in Canada in 2030.

Solar energy lowers your utility bill over time by offsetting your electricity usage. Any excess energy created by your solar system can be sold back to the national grid; providing greener energy for others in your community, and income for your wallet. The federal and provincial governments also offer incentives to install solar panels due to the benefits on the environment. Additionally, some municipalities offer incentives or rebates that help you pay for a solar system or benefit from the energy economically.

Renewable Energy is Far Better for the Environment.

One of the most obvious reasons why solar energy is important for our future is because Solar energy systems do not produce air pollutants or carbon dioxide. The solar systems installed on buildings have minimal effects on the environment. Solar power also helps to cut the amount of sulphur dioxide and nitrous oxide emissions, as it does not rely on the burning of fossil fuels to function.

Creating a positive impact now.

So here we stand, at this junction, armed with knowledge and solutions but with a huge daunting task ahead. Will we continue along the dangerous path of destruction on our only home? Or do we protect our precious planet and change, at whatever cost?

There are many ways to do this, one key way is to consider how we are obtaining and using energy. Making sure your energy supplier is sourcing renewable energy is a great start to being more environmentally friendly. So is looking into being more energy efficient in the way you live; i.e. using proper insulation, double glazing your windows and using smart heating devices to help you manage and reduce your energy consumption.

A better option for your home or business.

Another importance of solar energy is that Solar power is one of the cleanest and quietest sources of energy production. This renewable option is exceedingly promising in what it will be able to do for us in the future; especially in the clean energy it produces (zero emissions) and what it can do for local economies.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels can be easily installed onto homes or offices, providing owners with decreased electric bills and an energy source that requires little maintenance. The time, season, geographical region and weather all affect how much electricity solar panels generate. The amount of sun that arrives at the earth’s surface is not always constant.

One of the many cool things about solar energy is that the energy gathered from the sun during the day can be stored for use at night time, or when the weather is great. This is done by using special storage batteries. Any energy can also be sold back to the national grid to earn an income. Additionally, PV cells perform better at low temperatures making this technology perfectly suited to the Canadian climate.

Although solar PV energy is not a viable source for heating, solar thermal energy systems are used often. They can heat water, buildings, swimming pools, greenhouses, and various fluids to high temperatures in solar thermal power plants.

The long-term effects of a positive change.

It is no surprise that solar is the fastest-growing energy source in the world. This is because it is so easily adopted by individuals in their homes and businesses as a way to cut their electricity bills and carbon footprint.

It’s a clean energy source, so it helps cease the production of harmful chemicals and the need for disruptive scarring mining practices. The ozone layer will be able to recover, our air will become purer, and we won’t see ecosystems destroyed in the name of powering our world.

If many countries achieve their goals, the world will be largely powered by renewable energy. We will hopefully become carbon neutral; which means countries are doing as much to reduce carbon emissions as they are producing. Many of us will be using electricity to power our vehicles, using fossil fuels will be seen as an archaic way of living.

If by now you have realized why Solar energy is important and you care about the future of our world and our energy needs, then it is time to make the renewable switch today.
